Trailer for Savage Grace, I love Julianne Moore!

I was so impressed with this poster 6 months ago and recently reminded of it when I saw a trailer at the movie theater. If this comes around I will definitely see it, it looks tense. Apparently the director has already made this movie once before in Austria?

I saw Be Kind Rewind this weekend with Dan. I was not expecting greatness, but this movie was a pleasant surprise! Funny and sweet. I think it has the potential to be enjoyed by a wide range of people, something Science of Sleep didn’t achieve. Also, Deitch Projects has an exhibit going on to accompany the release of the movie – a faux video store front where you can create your own “Sweded” shorts.

I really love this poster for No Country For Old Men. Anyone have any favorites to share?

I was thinking yesterday about Criterion Collection covers and wondering who designs them. Is it freelance? Or do they have an office? Do the directors get any say in their covers if it’s a Criterion release?

I came across Eric Skillman’s design process blog, Cozy Lummox, which answered a lot of my questions. He works as a designer for the Criterion Collection and his blog offers a detailed account of the process of making a cover (and inserts, onscreen menus, etc.) from beginning to end. He shows different permutations of the cover as it progresses, some of which look better than the final, with explanations of why they didn’t work/communicate. It’s great! The two images above are final covers he’s worked on.
While looking into this I also found:

• Pentagram’s new(06) identity for Criterion.

• Entire forums where people create fake Criterion covers – some funny, some bad, some really good!

ALSO: Seven is fine, I shouldn’t use scare tactics against my friends. Her anal gland was blocked and it smelled, the vet fixed it – but not before she dragged ass across the carpet like a dog. I’m getting my teeth out tomorrow. So maybe I’ll blog something else this week.
