Weekend

This weekend my sister Annie turned 23 years old! Unfortunately she stayed in Richmond for the big day, but is coming home next weekend for celebration. Hopefully I can invent a Mexican bean and cheese cake to wow her with. Annie has a big deal appointment today so everyone please wish success on her.

Anna-Claire came for a visit this weekend and our first order of business was to cure Seven. Seven recently waged an imaginary war on Rocky Balboa and as a result gave herself PTSD. She peed on the spare bed nearly every day for a week! Foul. Anna-Claire recommended a Feliway plugin and I think it is working, no pee so far.

We watched movies, went to pilates, swapped music, and went shopping. Girls weekend! Anna-Claire agreed to write a review of No Frill Grill for Broad Audit – a ridiculous opinion blog I contribute to. Her review was very thorough, my only fear is she exceeded our audience’s level of reading comprehension.
I start my new job tomorrow (APRIL FOOLS DAY). I bought some new pens and pencils and am trying not to stress.

This & That

Missed Connections … could it be Dan?
The Library of Congress releases 3000 photos to Flickr.
MacWorld keynote came and went last week with no Macbook Pro update. I gave up waiting and bought one. I ordered a pretty laptop sleeve from Working Class Heroes to keep it safe. I will not let it go the way of StinkBook.

Christopher Brosius Hates Perfume

CB I Hate Perfume creates uncommon perfumes and scents – similar to the Demeter Fragrance Library, but with better packaging. Perfume is intimidating and I don’t trust my taste when it comes to scents. I know nothing about notes and oils –I liken perfume talk to wine talk. Despite my ignorance, I am interested in these kind of scents, the ones that evoke a memory or an idea rather than say smelling trampy or fancy. I would like to order a smell, maybe Cradle of Light or Memory or Kindness. I’m sure this will end in me and Seven smelling like musty hippies.

Square America
Came across Square America today. The (seemingly) thousands of photos are organized in a variety of ways, so you can spend a lot of time here – like a library.

“The impossible missions are the only ones which succeed.”
On Saturday Dan and I visited the Cousteau Society “mini-museum”. It’s a one room space near the Air and Space Museum in Hampton. The place was pretty haphazardly put together – half the items weren’t labeled and it felt too awkward to take any pictures inside because were the only people there. They had: a cross section model of The Calypso (complete with little beanie clad explorers), a shark diving tank, a few tiny strange submarines, metallic diving suits, and a ton of interesting photographs.
Jacques Cousteau’s internet presence is much like this museum, I couldn’t find any information or proper websites with the exception of Cousteau Society (worthless) and some articles about the Calypso rotting away. We decided Jacques Cousteau would make a good Halloween costume, but that people will just assume you are Steve Zissou.

Good looking things I refuse to buy.
Recently I started keeping track of my expenses and creating a budget at Expensr. My biggest waste of cash is clothes, I already knew that much, but now I have figures and charts. I’ve done an excellent job of staying out of stores lately, but I’ve fallen victim to online shopping tonight. It’s 1:30 am and I’m waiting up for Dan, he’s driving down after work (he gets off around midnight).

Do you like Old Gregg’s Place? I’ve got all things that are good.
Old Gregg is a strange, murderous, hermaphroditic merman-creature that lives at the bottom of Black Lake.
